Student Laptop Computers
When you’re a college student, money isn’t exactly flowing, as you’d like it to be. However, choosing good student laptop computers is crucial to your academic success. If done the right way, you can save yourself a lot of headaches and time.
I am going to try to explain the most common things you should look for when purchasing student laptop computers, as well as go over some of the must have components that a good laptop should have to make your life a lot easier.
Most student laptop computers come with basic software applications that you’ll need, such as word processing, email, internet etc. It is nothing short of amazing that more and more students are using laptops now than in the past. The average student should get a laptop computer that has the following: word processing, e-mail, internet, music downloads, maybe some video editing and more…
As I mentioned earlier, the list above is only a basic view of what most student laptop computers come equipped with. However, depending on your set of courses – you may need something a lot more powerful, but keep in mind that you will pay a little more.
Let us go over the five most important student laptop computers components.
The first component of student laptop computers is the CPU. The CPU is also known as the central processing unit, and it evaluates and executes the commands it is given. Therefore, the fastest CPU will give better performance in which, commands would be executed a lot quicker. Student laptop computers can get by just fine with a 1.0GHZ processor. Many of the laptops manufactured today come equipped with 2.0GHZ and up of processing speed. Depending on your needs, you may want to go faster than that, but I think 1.0 or the 2.0 processing speed would be just fine.
The second component of student laptop computers is the memory, or RAM. RAM plays a big part on how your applications will load, and how fast your computer will run. This makes memory one of the most popular upgrades today. Most student laptop computers will come with at least 80 GB of Ram, which is plenty if you’re going to be doing basic word processing, calculations, and internet browsing.
The third component of school laptop computers for students is hard drive storage capacity. I recommend that most students get as much hard disk space as they can afford. Today’s student’s use their laptops for play just as much as work. Therefore, more than likely, you’re going to download a lot of music and movie files. These types of files are very big and can fill an average hard disk in one night. Nevertheless, if you’re going to predominantly store term papers and reports, then you’re fine with the standard hard disk space of 80 GB to 120 GB.
The fourth component of student laptop computers is the CD-RW. This is going to be the most used part of student laptop computers. If you download music, and would like to burn it to a CD in the future then CD-RW is a necessary have. However, if you would like to burn downloaded movies to a DVD then you’ll need a DVD-RW drive. If you’re not interested in burning anything, then you will not need a CD or DVD burner. Some laptop computers come equipped with CD-RW and DVD-RW in one.
The fifth component of student laptop computers is the internet. If you’re a student – you know how important being able to connect to the internet can be. There is a plethora of knowledge online, which makes writing a term paper a breeze. Today, all student laptop computers come with internet connection capabilities. I highly recommend you get a laptop computer with wireless capabilities. Having the ability to connect to the internet wirelessly will allow you to get on the internet wherever there is a wireless signal. Therefore, if you like coffee, you will be able to fire up your laptop at your local StarBucks, as you work on your next project for school.
Now that I’ve mentioned all five components of finding student laptop computers, let me mention a couple more important things that you might want to know.
Do not forget about the weight of your student laptop computer. College students do a lot of walking on campus; therefore, try to get student laptop computers that weight in the six to seven pound range.
To keep in the light range for student laptop computers, I suggest you stay with a display screen size of around 15 inches. Having a 17-inch display is nice, but it will definitely add to the weight of the laptop.
